Note: As per updates from recent applicants, it has been noticed that most hospitals in Auckland have been refusing to grant observerships to IMGs. Other hospitals throughout NZ, however, do accept applications. Feel free to apply! What is an Observership? An Observership is when you are posted in specific departments at a Hospital, where you observe or watch the attendings, residents or fellows as do their daily duties. You will not have any direct patient contact and may not touch or examine any patients. In other words, you can watch but not touch. An Externship, however, is when you have the permission to actively be involved in patient care. The extent of involvement depends on your attending and the level of trust they have on you. Hi,
ReplyDeleteThank you for putting u this blog. It has been very informative and helpful.
I am an IMG and am planning to sit for the NZREX in March 2014. I gathered that the results would be out in 6 days following the exam. How long would it take on average to find a job/hospital and apply for provisional registration? I found some information that it takes longer for IMG's to find jobs in NZ even after NZREX. How true is this?
Thank you for your input! :)

Thank you Amirah!
DeleteGood luck for your exam. Once you pass the NZREX, the next step is to apply for 1st year house officer jobs. Recently, getting jobs has been very difficult, especially for IMGs. Having a PR or citizenship helps. Other than that, chances are bleak. Please be prepared for a long wait and have a backup plan (USMLE, etc). Once you get a job as a 1st year, things get better there on :)

Do not rely solely on this info, do your own research too, call/email DHBs and ask them too, talk to others who have passed NZREX and are applying for jobs. I am sure you will get a good idea of the situation.
Good luck!
I found this blog to be a valuable resource for information on NZREX. The detailed insights and guidance provided are commendable. Additionally, it's great to know about the "Do my Assignment" service, which can be incredibly helpful for Do My Management Assignment students seeking academic support. Thanks for sharing this informative content.
